How do you tune a guitar with and without a piano?

Anybody have any other tips for someone who is new to strings? I am familliar with instruments. I play flute, piano, saxophone and piccolo. I have an Esteban guitar and I’m wondering if you can play any genre with a western guitar? The strings are nylon but is it possible to change to steel too?
Also, Do western guitars have a different type of sound then a regular guitar? Does this mean I can play country or whatever and it wouldn’t be different? Is there a difference?
What’s a good brand of electric guitar for a novice?

So I’ve been playing an acoustic guitar for 6 months now, and I think I’m ready to upgrade to an electric. Thing is, I don’t know much about the different brands, and what the different qualities/pros/cons of them are. I’m mainly interested in couch guitar, where I just sit on the couch and play for my own amusement. For this reason I’m not a big fan of fender stratacasters, just because the body shape makes it difficult to play on my knee (its curve slides down my leg). But I don’t really know if there’s any difference between, say, a gibson SG, a telecaster, ultra, basic, standard, whatever. As far as I know currently, the only differences really are aesthetic, as the sound quality and type comes purely from the amp.
So guitar gurus, what do you folks suggest for a novice like me? I’d prefer to spend no more than $300, just because I’m not financially ready to make a larger investment. What do you think?

I know they are both nylon strings, but is there a significant difference in construction and sound? Also what is a good classical guitar or flamenco guitar to buy? I have been playing the steel strings for a long time and am thinking about exploring the classical style. Any recommendation helps. Thank you.
How to pack a guitar for the best protection with a hard case only when traveling?

I know putting the whole case in a guitar box works the best, but wouldn’t it cost to check in a guitar box? I mean, isn’t it too big to be counted as a free luggage? So, how can I pack a guitar with only the hard case for the best protection? What can I do to the exterior of the case? Also, if I were to bring the guitar on board, is it okay to do that with the guitar in a hard case?

I have never played the guitar before and I don’t want to spend a ton of money around $100-200. However I want to enjoy my learning experience but I don’t have the money right now to get a really good guitar. Any suggestions? I have been looking at the Jasmine and the Johnson beginner.
