What notes are guitar strings supposed to be tuned to?

I was given an electric guitar as a gift a while ago, but lost interest quickly and the guitar fell very out of tune. I now want to try and learn a bit, work a bit on it, but I don’t even know what note to tune the strings to. I’ve got the tuner, just not the knowledge of the note names. Thanks!

What type of beginning guitar should I buy?

I am very interested in learning how to play the guitar. I want to learn on an acoustic guitar but I am not sure what brand, type, model I should buy. I don’t want to spend an obscene amount of money but I do want it to be nice and last.
Also, any information on which stores are best to go, any books that I should buy, or any other helpful tips would be great.
